Car Pooling and Your Personal Safety

Your personal safety when car pooling is important.
There are a few points to think about before you start your own car pool or join another to make it an enjoyable experience for all participants.

It is important you make your own decisions about who to ride with and all participants understand that prior arrangements should be adhered to.

Take responsibility for your own safety

  • Arrange to meet new travel partners or car pool participants at work
  • Ask to see a current driver's license and vehicle registration if necessary
  • Only give out your home address if you are comfortable in doing so. Worsley strongly encourage the use of Raymond Road and Picton car parks as meeting points.
  • Remember to tell others of your arrangement
  • It's okay to say 'no'

Establishing a positive car pooling relationship

  • Agree on financial arrangements prior to commencing car pooling
  • If you choose to share driving and the use of personal vehicles there may be no need for financial transactions
  • If the same person drives and uses their personal car it's only fair to reimburse them for fuel and normal maintenance costs. Make sure all participants are comfortable with the arrangements.

Making your car pool work

  • Don't be late
  • Show common courtesy
  • Stick to the commitment you have made
  • Limit unscheduled stops or changing your departure point at last minute
  • Have a back-up plan and inform other participants if you cannot make one day

Personal information

Worsley and ShareMyCar.com have designed this site to ensure the privacy of your personal information. Contact details are never made available to other members unless you include this information in a private message to a car pool partner.

Car pooling and insurance

It is our understanding that your private car insurance policy will not be affected by car pooling provided that the arrangement does not produce a profit for the vehicle owner or driver.

If you are in any doubt as to whether a car pool arrangement contravenes any clause in your insurance policy, you should contact your insurance provider directly.
